Commitment to Diversity

My articles have covered seven different sports during my time as the Sports Editor. I have also covered clubs, local restaurants, and interesting personalities within our building. My coverage extends to a variety of subjects, and I believe my versatility is one of my highest qualities as a journalist.

This article was a profile of our campus minister. His work and his office had not received any attention from our publication, and I had just posted a sports story. It seemed like the perfect time to branch out and write about a topic that was undercovered and outside of my usual coverage range.

This was my first restaurant review, and it gives readers a more personal glimpse into both myself and the community. El Pollo Rey is a special place to me, so I felt that my review would be genuine. I enjoyed writing the review and look to cover other community spots in the future.

This article covers the growing trend of chess among students at our school. Again, I noticed a topic relevant to the students of Miege that was not being covered by our staff. I seized the opportunity. This was one of my first articles published on bmpress.org, and I believe getting out of my sports comfort zone helped me gain valuable experience.

This article is technically flagged as sports, but I believe it to be far more centered around the story of two humans. I covered two coaches in remarkably similar situations at our school. I felt the article was an important piece to write about them as they integrated into the community, and that readers would be able to break the ice with the new coaches through my words.
