Marketing and Audience Engagement
Being in important positions means I am responsible for the journalism I put out into the world. I am constantly meeting people who read/watch my work, and I always take their feedback into consideration. Directing a skit-oriented weekly program has helped me synergize with my audience.
Mr. Keith's morning
In this sketch, we feature an exaggerated morning routine of one of our school’s administrators. He is regarded as having a tough, attack-the-day personality. We exaggerated it, and this was extremely well received by the student body. It was ranked as our third best skit of the first semester in a poll we ran on our Instagram.
AB searches for "Buck"
Every week, a Bishop Miege administrator hides a stuffed animal named Buck. It becomes a competition among students to find Buck. My friend Andrew (or "AB" as he's known at school) was named class clown among the senior class, so we selected him as our main subject for this sketch. We create a character who lives, eats, and breathes his search for Buck. This was voted as our students' favorite segment of the first semester on our Instagram.
Home Alone parody
This sketch features one of our longest-tenured teachers in the building. He has been teaching at Miege for 34 years, and he is also our robotics coach. He has built a reputation as a “defender” of Miege, and his room is also known for its obscure amount of gadgets. As Christmas was rolling around, we decided to feature him in a “Home Alone” parody where he takes out a stereotypical student from one of our rival schools.
Audience analytics
Our website uses SNO analytics. This allows us to see real-time data on how our stories are performing, and gives us valuable feedback on what content is most engaging to our audience. I frequently use this tool to evaluate how my work is being received. In this screenshot, I have highlighted my articles on the list of our most viewed articles all-time.
Audience feedback
We also receive comments on our articles. Comments like these make the process of interviewing, writing, editing and publishing worth it. It affirms that I have engaged my audience, and that my article means something to people who have read it.
